Desert Storms

It was March 2016. We headed towards the vast open spaces of the desert, one of our favorite places for overland camping.

Taking a bit of a detour led us to a landscape straight out of a Star Trek episode. The combination of the barren scenery with the oncoming storm was like hitting the photo lottery. 

This was the kind of sci-fi scene I grew up watching on TV, I needed to capture it for myself. It felt like a different planet, a place I wanted to explore through my lens. 

As the storm approached I decided to change and capture myself in this other planet's landscape.

I wasn’t sure what would come of these portraits, what they would represent, but I liked the juxtaposition of an oncoming storm against clothing not meant for this weather. 

There’s something about the quiet, unforgiving, peaceful nature of the desert that I love. It’s beauty whispers waiting to be discovered.
