Paradise

April 2016 the North Shore of O’ahu was peaceful, tranquil, exactly what was needed after a two week family reunion. 

While exploring the east side of the island I saw a tree with amazing roots, the kind of roots you see in movies, that look as though they might come alive and swallow you whole. 

I wasn’t sure how I would use these portraits, I only knew I needed them.

Was it awkward to pose for photos while people walked past, of course. Did I almost let the moment pass because of self doubt, yes. But I’ve learned, if I feel an instinct I better act because the opportunity won’t present itself again and I’ll have regrets.

Every photo from this trip reminds me to follow my instincts rather than question or fight them; they have always given me the best moments in life.
