Is This Mars

In the summer of 2017 we loaded up Rusty and hit the road. The summer was hot and the California mountain wildfires added to the heat. 

After hanging our hammocks for the night we decided to take a dip in the lake to cool off. 

As I walked through the trees towards the water I was greeted by a surreal landscape; the ground orange and red, tree stumps scattered everywhere, the heat of the day still lingering, it felt like what I imagined Mars to be.

Ideas began to swirl in my mind. 

I returned to the cover of trees, grabbed my camera and changed.

I explored every stump through my camera lens. I stood in that surreal landscape reaching for something, something existing in my mind not yet formed.

Ideas flood my creative consciousness when I’m immersed in nature, thoughts are clearer, my spirit is a little more free.
